About Dow in LouisianaWith its combined five sites, Dow Louisiana is the largest petrochemical company in the state, pumping more than $1 billion annually into the Louisiana economy. This includes $550 million in annual purchases from Louisiana companies; $340 million in annual payrolls; $58 million in state and local taxes; $1.8 million in community quality of life contributions. At these five sites – Plaquemine, Grand Bayou, Hahnville/Norco, Sterlington, Greensburg – we manufacture more than 100 basic and specialty chemicals that are shipped worldwide. Another example of our basic and specialty chemicals is polyethylene, or plastic. Dow manufactures millions of pounds of plastic pellets each year at our Louisiana sites. The plastic pellets are sent to other manufacturers that make them into non-breakable bottles, computer & electronic components, automobile parts, disposable diapers, football helmets, CD's, tires, athletic shoes, hoses, cables…and the list goes on and on! Dow also makes lots of chlorine in Louisiana. Chlorine is used to purify drinking water, helps make a large variety of medicines, and is the chemical building block for numerous other products like solvents and chlorinated plastics. In each of our locations, Dow is a part of the surrounding community, providing jobs, economic stability, and striving to maintain and enhance the quality of life. Committed to the principles of sustainable development, Dow and its employees in Louisiana seek to balance economic, environmental and social responsibility as we invest in our communities and encourage them to invest in themselves. |
