DuPont Dow Elastomers began operations in 1996 and is a 50/50 joint venture of the DuPont Company and The Dow Chemical Company. DuPont Dow is a global supplier of specialty elastomers, thermoplastics and supporting technologies.

The Pontchartrain site began operations as part of the DuPont Company in 1970, producing Neoprene, serving the general rubber, liquid dispersion and adhesives industries.

The Pontchartrain plant and its employees have been recognized for their outstanding commitment to the environment, receiving the 2002 Clean Air Award for Innovation, and the 2002 Louisiana Governor's Environmental Leadership Award for Outstanding Achievement in Pollution Prevention. Pontchartrain is the only facility in Louisiana to have earned the award all six years since the program's inception.

The employees at Pontchartrain participate in a variety of community activities, including St. John Parish Honor Roll Round-Up, United Way, Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day, Career Days and Adopt-a-School programs. Employees also maintain a Wildlife Habitat on the plant site and have received national recognition during the Wildlife Habitat Council's 14th Annual Symposium held in Baltimore, MD in 2002.

Additionally, DuPont Dow has manufacturing and R&D facilities in Plaquemine, LA.
