Collaborating

Dow’s commitment to the security and safety of our sites, products and communities -- where we live and work -- has always been deeply embedded in our company’s culture and our business processes.  As we work to provide valuable products to our customers, we're also always working to ensure the safety of our employees and the safety of the plant communities where our products are made.  In order to do so, Dow closely collaborates with local emergency responders and government organizations to enable readiness for any emergency scenario.

As a manufacturing site that falls under the Maritime Security Act (MARSEC), which is administered by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security, Dow Ludington Operations maintains a Facility Security Plan.  As part of this plan, which is reviewed and approved by the U.S. Coast Guard, Dow conducts practice emergency drills four times per year as well as an additonal annual test exercise.

Dow is also a member of the West Michigan Port Security Planning Committee, which is led by the U.S. Coast Guard, and whose membership includes West Michigan businesses with water ports, local police and fire responders, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs.  Dow is also a member of the Lake Michigan Section Security Committee.

Dow, through its participation in the Local Emergency Planning Committee, also maintains close working relationships and coordinates its safety and preparedness efforts with local emergency response organizations, including the Ludington U.S. Coast Guard Station, the Ludington Police and Fire Departments, Ludington Life Emergency Services, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Manager, as well as the Michigan State Police.

In addition, Dow collaborates with local emergency response organizations through annual joint training exercises in emergency situations, medical rescues and hazardous material response drills.  The drills, frequent communication, emergency preparedness and planning efforts enable all responders to successfully respond to every type of risk.

Dow, in addition to maintaining its own emergency medical response team and other established emergency readiness measures, also willingly makes its emergency responders and equipment available to other businesses in the local area without hesitation when necessary.
